Human Trafficking
Recognising the Signs: A Guide for Healthcare Practitioners
What is this course and why?
This is a flexible, self-paced short course to provide all healthcare practitioners and professionals with the knowledge and skills to identify potential victims of human trafficking, and the support to take appropriate action to assist them.
The statistics associated with the number of victims that come into contact with medical professionals while still enslaved is shocking! In the US alone, this figure is around 83%. With these types of statistics, there is a clear need for medical professionals to be trained and become adept at identifying any victims that may come into their care. liberatED is therefore targeting both future and current medical professionals.
You as a medical professional can use your role, as a tool, to reduce the number of enslaved people in the world. Victims of human trafficking may only come into contact with a healthcare practitioner once for treatment, and therefore, timeframes to act can be tight and quick thinking is required. This course provides you with the knowledge and skills to identify potential victims, and the support to take appropriate action to assist them.
Course Structure
There are five units, plus an optional extension unit on the reporting process for medical professionals working in Romania.
Each unit is worked through in order, and comprised of a concise video with a written transcript of the video, followed by a short quiz.
Students must gain at least a 60% pass rate in order to progress to the next unit and may re-sit tests multiple times if they do not meet this requirement.
Most units will take between 10-40 minutes to complete, with the course totaling between 1 – 3 hours, depending on the individual completing the course.
Students will receive a certificate of completion once they have passed the course.
